How hard a job is this and does anyone know where I might find the manual pages to download? (i hate to spend $60 for a manual ).Any help/tips/tricks would be greatly appreciated!! There is 25,000 pounds pre-load on the spring so you can imagine what it would do if it got loose.

If you end up needing to compress the spring slightly be sure to place steel blocks in between spring and the stops. Don't depend on the nut at the rear of the spring to hold it alone. Spin up the nut at the rear of the spring too once you have the spring blocked back. If your spring looks bent or isn't laying in position straight or isn't against the stops straight you may want to have someone with experience take a look at it.don't take risks! The threads on the bolt in the center of the spring are very often in poor condition and aren't safe for containing the spring.

A lot of guys won't remove a spring using the old bolt. They pull the track adjuster like you're doing and then install a new bolt and nut to contain the spring during removal.or.just torch the spring. On our 6d the front idler was going out. Pulled it into the shop one evening to investigate.

Let all the grease pressure out of the hydraulic adjuster and took off a track pad above the master link. Took out the master link bolts and gave it a tap with a hammer. The track broke lose, flew up in the air high enough to get ahold of a chain fall that was near it. This chain fall was hanging from a bridge crane that runs across our shop and travels the length of it, about 60'. It hit the chain fall with such force that it propelled the bridge crane about 30' to,the stops at the back wall.

Had anyone been standing in front of the track when I tapped the master link they surely would have been crushed! The master link was near the differential whEn this happened and the track had to fly up at least 12' to get into contact with the chainfall.
