2017 Chevrolet Malibu Shop Manual
The 2017 Chevrolet Malibu midsize sedan is offered in four main trim levels: L, LS, LT and Premier. The Hybrid is a stand-alone trim level. The base L is indeed pretty basic. It comes standard with a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine (160 hp and 184 pound-feet of torque), a six-speed automatic transmission, 16-inch steel wheels, keyless entry and ignition, cruise control, air-conditioning, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, Bluetooth phone connectivity and a six-speaker audio system. Notably, Bluetooth streaming audio is not provided. You'll likely be happier with the LS and its 16-inch alloy wheels, laminated (i.e., quieter) side windows and windshield, 4G LTE connectivity with mobile Wi-Fi, Bluetooth audio, and the MyLink infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen that includes smartphone integration.
Upgrading to our recommended choice, the LT trim, will also get you 17-inch wheels, heated mirrors, an eight-way power driver seat, rear climate vents and satellite radio. We like the Hybrid, too, because it's essentially comparable to the LT in terms of equipment and additionally boasts a gas-electric hybrid powertrain consisting of a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor (for a combined 182 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque). If you can swing it, we recommend opting for the Convenience and Technology package, which includes remote ignition, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, an upgraded 8-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone charging and two additional USB charging ports.
This also opens the door for the Leather package, which adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, a six-way power passenger seat (with power lumbar) and a nine-speaker Bose audio system. Or if you just want to get everything, the Premier includes all of the above features plus a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (250 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque), a nine-speed automatic transmission, 18-inch wheels, upgraded exterior styling details, ventilated front seats, driver memory settings, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control and a navigation system. I'm a full time student and this vehicle made being a student less stressful and much more enjoyable. I owned the vehicle for only a few months when I ended up totaling it sadly. I will be purchasing another one to replace my first and favorite vehicle. I was driving home at 11pm after a busy day of school and errands, as I was driving home there was a pack of deer that sprinted out in front of my vehicle and because I was driving the car I was driving I not only survived but walked away from the crash unharmed, I hit a tree after trying to avoid the deer and also rolled three times.
Overall the safety on this car was flawless and because my vehicle came with a five year on-star prescription 9-1-1 was instantly dialed the moment my airbags went off. This style vehicle is not only stylish but safe and I would recommend this vehicle to any and everyone. The 2017 Malibu is very nicely designed, very modern and tasteful. The car is long so it has excellent back seat. My LT model was equipped with virtually every option such as collision avoidance, special larger wheels, leather interior and many other features. Such as the special aztech red paint. The seats are comfortable and adjust to many settings and the back seat is spacious.
Full review with performance data of the all-new, 2016 Chevrolet Malibu LT with the. And the dinky toggle atop the shifter for manual gear selection is so ineffective that Chevrolet shouldn't. Shop Local Cars. New Cars for 2017: Chevrolet.
The touch screen on my car is the larger one and is easy to read and pretty easy to use. I tend to like the blue tooth radio but it can be very quirky at times. (Being older, I do have trouble getting used to this modern technology). Overall, the price for what you get is an excellent value for the price, as the care is definitely up to to date with the latest technology to keep you safe. My two complaints is that the engine, is under- powered and the car should have the larger four cylinder.
And, the feature I hate most and despise is the stop/start feature which makes bumper to bumper driving a real pain. I just do not see how much this adds to gas mileage enough to be able to accept the constant shutting off and starting at a light or in traffic. And finally, they should have included tuning button for the radio, but this is a minor complaint. Overall, a nice car for the money. My first car was a 2001 Chevy Cavalier LS bought brand new. Being my first car, I was very proud of it. I remember going in to the break room and reading a review from a car magazine on my 15 minute break at work.
The only things it said were 'Mostly plastic. Feels cheap.' I went out to my car after work and sat in the driver's seat. It was mostly plastic. My sister 2 years later got a brand new Hyundai Elantra.
It had a sunroof, it was a much better car than mine. I remember my dad saying 'It's a shame that America can't make a decent car like Toyota, Honda, or Hyundai.' This is also when the Daewoo cars started being sold as well. $11,000 got you a better quality car than an $18,000 Chevy! Then came the bailout.
My next car was a 2008 Impala. You can feel the difference.
Every car after (especially my 2014 Malibu LT) has been a step up. Take this car and put it up against a BMW. Whoever is designing these things, has their finger on the pulse of the younger consumer (I'm no longer in my 20s). It has Bose speakers, Apple Car Play, wireless phone charger (the plug in piece for my phone costs $12 on Amazon), unlimited 4GLTE wifi on your car for $20 a month, etc. The only thing I would do differently is I would get the 2.0 Turbo engine instead of the 1.5 Turbo (my last Impala had I think it was a 2.2 L Engine) and there is a difference in power. The Malibu is Chevrolet's mid-size sedan. Recently redesigned, the base engine is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. We're not so high on that one.
2017 Chevrolet Malibu Specifications
But if you step up to the Premier trim level, get the 2-liter turbo, it's got a lot of power. It's got a new nine-speed automatic for 2017. We're a fan of that one. Overall, the Malibu is pretty rewarding to drive by segment standards. Can handle itself pretty well around turns.
Comfortable over bumps. Significant step up from Malibu's past. There's also a hybrid version of the Malibu. Obviously, better fuel economy, but performance does suffer a bit. Step inside the Malibu and you'll find a reasonably capacious back seat.
Of course, that's expected for this segment. But you'll have no trouble fitting a couple of six-footers side by side, assuming the people in front are accommodating about it. Interior's quality has certainly improved for this generation. Previously, the Malibu was toward the bottom of the pack in that regard. Now we consider it competitive. The eight-inch touchscreen in the center of the dash is also a high point. It's responsive.
It's nice to look. One of the better ones you'll find in this class.
It's not all peaches and cream with the 2017 Malibu. Do have some sparse equipment on base L trim. Not huge fans of the outward visibility. But that's the price you pay for the styling, which kind of reminds us of an Audi A7 if you squint. For more Edmunds Expert Rundowns, click the link to subscribe.
If you're shopping for a midsize sedan, you'll find that now may be the best time ever to consider the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu. Thanks to last year's full redesign, this latest version of the Malibu has ditched its somewhat bland recent past for a much more distinctive present. Key highlights include pleasing driving dynamics (which are downright sporty in the Premier trim), a lively hybrid version, a spacious cabin and (in most trim levels) an easy-to-use infotainment system with a large touchscreen and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone functionality. There's also the crisp styling, which to our eyes makes the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu one of the sharpest midsize sedans around. The cabin is also well done, with high quality trim and sound ergonomics.
Downsides are the thick roof pillars and some shiny trim that can obscure outward visibility. Behind its aggressive dual-tier grille, the Malibu offers a choice of three engines: two turbocharged four-cylinder engines (1.5L and 2.0L) with 160 and 250 horsepower respectively, and a hybrid powertrain with 182 hp. The smaller turbo-four can feel flat-footed off a stop, but once moving along it effortlessly handles merging, climbing grades and higher speed cruising.

As you might expect, the larger turbocharged engine is considerably swifter. The Malibu Hybrid is the stunner of the lineup, though, with a refined nature and surprisingly quick acceleration to go along with its high fuel economy numbers. EPA estimates range from 26 mpg combined (22 city/33 highway) for the 2.0 turbo to 46 mpg combined (49 city/43 highway) for the Malibu Hybrid. There are essentially five trim levels in the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu family. The four non-hybrid versions range from the base L up to the loaded Premier.
The L isn't exactly a stripped car, as it counts keyless entry and ignition among its standard features, but it is otherwise basic indeed. The Premier trim goes full-on luxury with a heated steering wheel. The well-equipped LS and LT trims, which will likely be the volume sellers, sit between those two.
The Hybrid is equipped similarly to the LT. There also are available packages that bring additional tech, comfort and convenience.
Thanks to its refined driving experience, convenient features and roomy cabin, the newest Malibu manages to stand tall in a crowded and competitive segment. Thanks good site bit pricey. Much better than Alldata diy. Bought a one day issue found what I needed. When I ordered parts from GM preformance, the same exact diagrams were the ones I found on repairprocedures.
So I assume they have a direct source to GM. Then again I havent tried any of the alternates, so unsure how they are compared. But surely gives you step by step with pictures. Not bad when you need it for a single repair.
